Let the NEWS flow to me

Every person is unique; in addition to that I assume every person (I know) has access to information. In my case: my interest areas vary depending upon my mood, behavior and my likings and vary almost every month if not every week. For example my current interest area has been Indian stock market (some specific stocks) and UID (Indian government Unique Identification project) .

To satiate my thirst on these topics/interests I spend on an average 14 hours (in a week) on internet.

This calls out for approximately 2 days of every month on internet searching for something which I know I will be interested in reading. This is called as NEWS searching.

Now think something like NEWS flowing to me on a specific topic rather than I go and dig out for NEWS. Google Alerts do exactly this. One just has to do something like:

  1. Setting up a search item which I am interested in reading.
  2. Ask Google alerts to send me alerts (in case I want mails) (every month/day/moment)
  3. Or Ask Google alerts to write it to RSS feeds and have a reader on top of it in one's mail box.

I found this amazing to be in touch with what I want. And actually I have saved almost 1 day of my month... at least I can spend more time doing something more worthy rather than just blindly searching.

Something technical - Connection using proxy in eclipse

Though i have restrained myself by not entering some hard core technical things in this blog; it has sometimes negated my initial thinking of "Just Write"....

so adding some technical information.

I was recentrly facing a simple task of making a java program run which was making HTTP/LDAP connection using a proxy in eclipse. I tried various search terms in google but it pointed me to "adding proxt in install/update of Eclipse". Finally i found out that by using "-Dhttp.proxyHost=host.example.com -Dhttp.proxyHost=7777" as the JVM params will resolve issue for any IDE java run. It does not have to be specific to Eclipse.

Hope someone else also finds this useful.
